Mpesa is ALMOST perfect for most of what it set out to do.

Mpesa is ALMOST perfect for most of what it set out to do. They need to increase the Daily Limit for Business to Business transactions and they will be the most handy way to make payments.

We often exhaust our Daily limits on two lines when we are buying construction material for Swimming Pool Projects (http://www.kspools.com) outside of town. We are currently working in Makutano (on the Sagana Road) and in Wote. We either send money (through Mpesa) to the team leader to make purchases directly or we send the money directly to the Business through the line they provide.

We have Bank to Our phone access and Bank to Another Phone Access. This means that we can send money directly from our Bank account to any other phone. We are therefore able to transact any amount to many phones. The thing is ALL the phones have the per transaction limit of Kshs. 70,000/- and the daily limit of Kshs. 140,000/-. These are the limits that are a hindrance to business to business transactions.

These limits must have come from the central Bank and therefore those are the people to speak to. They must realise that there are more people willing to use Mpesa Positively than there are trying to use it negatively. There must be a category of registered businesses that are allowed higher limits.

Customer transactions to business have the Paybill and Lipa na Mpesa functions which have made it really easy and smooth to make payments. Mpesa is just about to take over ALL the business from Credit Cards and Debit Cards and this is really a great achievement. If the number of merchants can be maximized then Mpesa will be the ONLY real choice for making payments.

Granted that the Mpesa System is owned by Safaricom and they place limits on who can use their system and for what, of course by following Central Bank regulations, BUT Mpesa is an extremely useful product. A product that has yet to be duplicated in such a magnitude anywhere in the World.

IT IS therefore unfair to make a documentary that attempts to hate on Mpesa. A few companies may have been refused the service BUT that is no excuse for making the documentary. These complainants have made little or no contribution to the growth of Mpesa and they therefore have little or no justification for their unfounded claims against Mpesa.

Mpesa has improved tremendously and I believe that they keep trying to improve on it every moment.

Bitcoin has a place in Kenya and Bitcoin can overtake Mpesa by far and possibly even eliminate it completely. The possibilities for Bitcoin are way far Greater than those of Mpesa. Using the Wallet from http://www.37coins.com, one can send Bitcoins to any place in the World. It is like Global Mpesa. This is WHY safaricom Must consider transacting Bitcoin on their System. They need to create a system that converts Bitcoin to Mpesa and vice versa. They will immediately benefit from the almost $120Million remittances to Kenya and earnings by farmers and other exporters. Safaricom using the Mpesa Network could easily show the World how to work with Bitcoin. Safaricom really has no choice because sooner or later Bitcoin will take over!

In the meantime, Bitcoin must make an effort to work hand in hand with Mpesa as this is really the easiest way for it to grow. It is actually an excellent combination that immediately makes every Bitcoin owner with Mpesa a Bitcoin exchanger! Peer to Peer exchanges that require no licencing from anybody and due to their numbers even Safaricom could never stop them!

Imagine the over $6Million dollars given to the current money transfer companies and banks going directly to the people. The so called "disadvantaged" or the base of the Pyramid. Infact the volume of remittances would increase tremendously as small amounts of even $1 could be send from anywhere in the world!

The question to the Bitcoin Community though is - Do you expect the "disadvantaged" to use their meager resources to by Bitcoin? Won't History be repeating itself when we transfer our wealth to you when we buy Bitcoin? Have you no sense of fairness by wanting to take from the poor to further enrich yourselves?

It is time the Bitcoin Community became the base of the pyramid. To become the bottom of the Pyramid and send some Bitcoins this way, see http://www.sotemoja.com and an earlier article I wrote http://bit.ly/1wjwjc7
